I’m not sure where you grew up or how old you are, but I don’t ever remember a magazine called, “Eighteen”.  Do you?  I do, however, remember, vividly, a magazine called, “17”.  Do you?  That magazine is still tremendously popular today.  It is one of a very short list of print-media companies that have withstood the tide of the tech.  In a world where information of every kind is transmitted from anywhere to anywhere else in a second, the magazine, “17” continues to sell their hard-copy editions to millions of teens all over the world.

Why do you suppose they chose 17?  Why not 16 or 13?  Sweet sixteen in Newcastle, Mitzvahs in Cessnock; those are some milestone/rite- of-passage-like years as well.  17 is one of the most precious and golden times in a person’s life.  It is the most emotionally tumultuous as well.  Young adults who are at this time in their lives, and who have that unquestionably tangible aspect of being coupled with a genuine disability such as adult autism spectrum disorder, they will appreciate having access to the very best (where competence and compassion meet) care in Newcastle, Cessnock, Aberglasslyn or anywhere in New South WalesCorner House Services is an NDIS STA and SIL service provider.  Contact your NDIS LAC or contact us directly for assistance  0431-721-564

The needs of a 17 year old autistic teen are far greater than that of the average teen, because the autistic teen may, for example, have to actively navigate their way through intellectual delay in order to arrive at things like inspiration, motivation, or decision making in a comparatively timely fashion. Age17 is one of those times in a person’s life when they definitely need emotional support from someone they trust.  Regardless of  a teenager’s intellectual disposition, or the speed at which they interpret things, trust is trust.   That is a benchmark you can count on.

At Corner House Services, trust is everything.  At a glance, Corner House Services might simply look like a well-organized “turn-key” operation; and to some extent it is.  The training of staff is a uniform process.  There is a level of quality  and expectations that is the same at any of the Corner House Services STA & SIL venues throughout NSW.  But make no mistake it is that uniform training that gives rise to the heightened trust that is extended to each and every employee at Corner House Services.  That trust is to be able to deliver the highest level of care and compassion to an autistic 17 year old teen who is anything but “uniform.”

As similar as the age of 17 is for nearly every 17 year old, it is also an age where people are in most cases as unique to themselves as they are to each other.  Their bodies are changing at the greatest speed of their lives.  If you’re a parent of a 17 year old teen, you know this first hand.  This age is usually overwhelming for the average teen, and that is why support at this juncture is critically important to the continued healthy development of autistic young adults.  The graduation from the level of STA (Short Term Accommodation) to SIL (Supported Independent Living) for teenagers suffering from intellectual delay and other form of the autism spectrum is a milestone niche upon which Corner House Services remains focused.
