The Sky Is Clear Blue For Autism Awareness Month 2023

FYI Saturday April 1st through Sunday April 30th, 2023 is World-Wide Autism Awareness Month.  It’s been our Superbowl since 1970!

We are again joining (WAAD), i.e., World Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd, 2023) in this month-long celebration of recognition, greater understanding and more effective treatment for those within the autism spectrum.

Autism is a life-long disorder which underscores the importance of programs specifically designed (with both support coordinators and front-line service providers) which focus upon a continues transition (metamorphosis) to Supported Independent Living.

Improvements in diagnostics, and in early detection – which explains the increase percentage of cases.  They have always been there – hidden in the shadows and in in closets all over the world; today, however, as the result of breakthrough research, we are continuing to discover more and more about identifying specifics and about the progress of the disorder at the molecular level.   A greater understanding of the disorder at the cellular level is the beginning of a bright blue future for the entire industry.  This is the blue sky to which the title refers.

Increased visibility of public figures and actors who have become role-models for those undiagnosed cases which have been able, by hook or crook, to remain undetected or in the closet.  Because of that, many people have self-diagnosed or received a confirming medical diagnosis and made themselves available for treatment that further promotes self-reliance or at minimum, Supported Independent Living.

Science Daily article: Nov. 22, 2022 , “Brain Changes In Autism Are Far More Sweeping Than Previously Known…” by Dr. Daniel Gerschwind, Professor, Genetics, Neurology and Psychiatry at UCLA .

This study has revealed evidence detailing the progression of the autism disorder at the cellular level.  A tremendous breakthrough as it literally kicks the door open to new and improved treatments.  It gives scientists, support coordinators, practitioners and service providers a more accurate place to begin on a map of a sea of psychiatric uncertainty.  Unlike Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, whose pathologies (i.e., the cellular level) have been well defined for decades, Autism has been comparatively misunderstood – which historically has been the most formidable barrier to new and improved treatment.  It is for this reason that the percentage of people born within the autism spectrum in Australia continues to rise.  Currently it is at 413/100,000, i.e., a little over 4%.

Imagine what it would be like from the point of view of parents, doctors, scientists, support coordinator, practitioners and service providers of Supported Independent Living.  Imagine a greater degree, more discernable, more recognizable – yay, more predictable symptoms and behavioral patterns.

We celebrate the people on the autism spectrum as we join the United Nations rest of the world in unison and applaud our continued universal commitment to the continued advancement of Autism Awareness endeavoring, as technology, to improve each and every day.
